SUMMERTOWN — Normally, when a team doubles up its opponent in the hits column, good things tend to happen.
Despite the Forrest Lady Rockets out-hitting Summertown in Monday night’s non-district match up, the Lady Eagles took advantage of six forrest errors and claimed the 9-5 win.
The Lady Rockets left off Monday’s game with three-straight singles, leading to a Chrsita Warren RBI single to third, scoring Maggie Daughrity.
Two batters later, Taylor Moreland hit the first of two doubles in the game, plating Warren for the 2-0 Forrest lead.
Despite starting pitcher Ella Chilton sitting the Lady Eagles down in order in the first, Summertown went to work in the second.
With two outs, back-to-back singles brought home three runs and the hosts led 3-2.
Things went from bad to worse in the bottom of the third as Forrest committed three errors in the inning, leading to a fourth Summertown run.
Forrest rallied in the top of the fourth and got one run back on a RBI triple by Daughrity and another crossed in the top of the fifth when Chilton helped her own cause in the fifth with a one-out solo homer to tie the game at four.
Summertown broke the tie and took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth.
The back-breaker for the Lady Rockets came in the sixth inning as Forrest committed two more errors and Summertown padded its lead with two runs scoring on a Forrest error, a sac-fly and sac-bunt to put the Lady Eagles up 9-4 heading to the seventh.
Despite the struggles with the errors, Forrest got some two-out magic in the top of the seventh with a RBI single by Abby Ferguson.
But Ferguson’s hit was the final run Forrest could muster up in the loss.
Daughrity went 2-for-3 with a triple and a RBI to her credit, while Moreland was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles.
Sarah King also had two singles as well.
Chilton went the distance for the Lady Rockets and gave up just four earned runs, while striking out seven and allowing one walk.
