Elaine Tankersley

Sadie Elaine Jones Tankersley, 95, lifelong resident of Maury County, died Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were  conducted Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Greg Daimwood officiating and George Thompson song leader.  Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family visited with friends Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Elaine was born on March 11, 1929, in the Leftwich Bridge community of Maury County, Tenn. to the late Ross Jones and the late Louise Derryberry Jones.  She graduated from Columbia Central High School in 1947 and married William Franklin Tankersley on July 12, 1947.  For many years she was the secretary at Riverside Elementary School and prior to that she worked at Anderson Brothers & Foster Department Store.  Her interests included crocheting, antique collecting, and traveling nationally and internationally.  She was a member of the Anytime Singers group and Ephesus church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband of 76 years, William Tankersley of Columbia; daughter-in-law, Cookie Tankersley of Lewisburg; two grandchildren, James William (Constance) Tankersley and Elizabeth Poarch both of Lewisburg; four great-grandchildren, Maci Poarch, Colman Brothers, John David Tankersley, and Andi Leigh Tankersley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Billy Ross Tankersley on August 19, 2021.

Pallbearers were Tom Ferguson, David Jent, Tex Hopkins, Billy Truelove, Ken Harris, Terry Goodwin and Roscoe Voss.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Anytime Singers.
