Delta Kappa Gamma members and several guests met at the historic home of Emily and Jerry Gordon in Lewisburg on January 27th. Guests enjoyed visiting the bungalow style two-story home built in 1924—one hundred years ago this year. Finger foods were served and guests enjoyed viewing the architectural style and collected items throughout the Gordon home.
An informative, interactive program, “Music Magic, Music Therapy for the Aging Brain,” was presented by hostess Emily Gordon. Everyone enjoyed and participated in the program which included a song recall game, examples of ways the brain responds to music, and ended with a seated line dance. Afterward, members discussed the benefits of music to promote learning.
Two special guests introduced were past recipients of Beta Kappa’s teacher mini-grant program. Carolyn Mills and Lacey Hooten discussed the activities and materials their students now use because of the mini-grants awarded to their classrooms. They were congratulated on their winning mini-grant proposals which were funded by Beta Kappa Chapter. Barbara Hinson, Area VII Director from Hohenwald, Tenn., also attended the meeting.
