STAFF REPORT
LYNCHBURG — A torrential rain and a bevy of turnovers made for a game as sloppy as the field conditions, caused by the remnants of Hurricane Helene.
Moore County took advantage of several Bulldog miscues and was able to hang on for the 26-0 win over the ‘Dawgs.
Moore County’s Tucker Smith scored on a 61-yard touchdown pass from Gaving Wise, but the kick after failed.
An interception set up the second Raider touchdown of the night, which capped the drive on a 5-yard Isaac Petty run with 1:10 left in the opening frame.
He found a second score on the night with 9:54 left in the first half on a 1-yard run.
Logan Hegwood scored the final touchdown of the night with 3:44 left in the game for the hosts.
While Moore County was able to find the end zone four times, Cornersville came up with key stops in its own territory with a pair of turnovers and forcing two turnovers on downs.
The Bulldogs now fall to 1-2 in Region 5-A and 2-4 overall.
Cornersville will step out of region play and travel to Cannon County on Friday night.
