RICHLAND — In the 2025 rendition of the Battle of Buford Station, the Cornersville Bulldogs struggled to overcome a stingy Richland Raider defense in a 31-0 Region 5-A loss on Friday night.
In its past three games, Richland has allowed a combined 15 points, while Cornersville, battling injuries, has struggled to maintain its offensive footing throughout the past four games.
Jake Sands got the Raider offense going early, striking twice in the first quarter from 23 yards and 16 yards out for a 14-0 Richland lead by the end of the period.
The hosts played add on in the second quarter when quarterback Gavin Shrader hit Aylin Kennedy for a six-yard strike and then Colin Cagle added a third rushing touchdown for the Raiders with 5:22 left in the half.
As time expired, kicker A.J. Bates tacked on a 25-yard field goal for a 31-0 halftime lead—a lead that held through the remainder of regulation.
In total, Richland out-gained Cornersville 253 yards to 60.
Hunter Uland got the lion’s share of carries for the ‘Dawgs, toting the ball 15 times for 38 yards.
Cornersville makes one last lengthy road trip on the season with Friday night’s non-region matchup at Wayne County, before sitting idle next week.
Following the off week, Cornersville will welcome Region 5-A opponents Moore County and Huntland to Frog Bottom to close out the regular season.
