Lewisburg Middle School students will soon start using the Paton/Patterson College & Career Ready Labs classroom. The 18 career exploration stations offer hands-on/minds-on learningĀ and curriculum as well as state of the art equipment. College & Career Ready Labs provide the ultimate career exploration to engage students in authentic problem-based learning experiences as they discover their interests and aptitudes.
Career Exploration teacher Corey Jones will oversee the College & Career Ready Labs that are located in one classroom. The program will be based on a 10-day rotating schedule, with students working in two-person teams. This will allow students to be exposed to all of the careers in one school year. Students will also have lessons and assessments to complete on their laptops. Many of the career labs are relevant to CTE programs of study offered at the district high schools. The following labs will be available to students: CAD & Design; Cosmetology & Barbering; Criminalistics; Design & Marketing; Digital Manufacturing; Electricity & Electronics; Employability Skills; Energy & Power; Flight & Drone Technology; Intro to Child Development; Intro to Engineering & Design; Intro to Health Science Careers; Materials Processing & Design; Mechanisms; Personal Finance; Research & Development; Welding Basics; and Emergency Medical Technician.
“These labs will offer the opportunity for students to be exposed to a wide-range of careers that they might not have otherwise been exposed to,” stated CTE Director Frank Musgrave. “The students will work on projects related to various career fields and use equipment such as a 3-D printer, automotive engine, medical equipment, drones, simulators, and industrial tools.”
