City of Lewisburg Presentation Honoring Myra Harris

Posted on Monday, October 27, 2025 at 2:30 pm

The City of Lewisburg would like to recognize Myra Harris for her incredible compassion and dedication to families who have experienced the unimaginable loss of a child.

After Myra and her husband Drew, lost their son Camden to stillbirth at 28 weeks on November 16, 2020, they were surrounded by the kindness of nurses at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Those nurses created a keepsake box to help them remember their son — filled with handwritten cards, a photo album of his pictures, his handprints and footprints, ultrasound images, and small items from his birth. It was a deeply personal gift that gave them something to hold onto when they couldn’t hold their baby — something to remind them they weren’t going home empty-handed.

That act of compassion inspired Myra to create Camden’s Care Boxes, a program that provides similar keepsake boxes to hospitals throughout Middle Tennessee. Since November 2021, on what would have been Camden’s first birthday, Myra and her family have delivered these boxes to Ascension St. Thomas Murfreesboro, Vanderbilt Tullahoma, Maury Regional Medical Center, and Southern Tennessee Regional Health System in Pulaski.

Each Camden’s Care Box contains a list of resources for grieving families, a small stuffed animal, a bag for a lock of hair, a keychain for Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness, a book on grieving, and other comforting items — all carefully chosen to bring light and love to parents in their darkest moments.

In 2024, Myra also organized the first Wave of Light ceremony in Lewisburg — part of an international observance held on October 15, Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day. During this event, candles are lit across every time zone at 7 p.m. and burn for one hour, creating a continuous wave of light around the globe. The ceremony serves as a powerful reminder that the children we’ve lost are never forgotten, and that their light continues to shine through the love of their families.

This year marks the second annual Wave of Light here in Marshall County. Through Camden’s Care Boxes and the Wave of Light, she has transformed her grief into grace, and her loss into love — ensuring that no family in our community has to face this pain alone.

On behalf of the City of Lewisburg, we express our deepest admiration and gratitude to Myra Harris for her compassion, her courage, and her commitment to honoring the memory of Camden by caring for others. Her work reminds us that even in times of sorrow, one small light can illuminate the darkness for many.

The money to purchase items for Camden’s Care Boxes is raised solely by fundraisers, bake sales, and sharing Camden’s story. There is a Facebook page under Camden’s Care Boxes for more information. Events and photos are regularly added to Facebook if anyone would like more information on making a financial donation, to purchase items from the wish list, or learn how to help a family in their time of crisis.

Mayor Jim Bingham presented a commemorative plaque to Myra. Pictured with Myra are her husband Drew, daughter Lilly, and mother-in-law Tracy Harris.
