The regular meeting of the Cornersville Board of Mayor and Aldermen met Nov. 2 at 6:00 p.m. Agendas were available for the audience. Financial statements included expenses, incomes, and balances for the month of October as well as YTD. The board voted to approve October minutes.

One citizen offered comments pertaining to the length of citizen’s comments, when they are featured on the agenda, and asked how to know what is going to be discussed prior to meetings. Town Administrator Taylor Brandon explained, “The agendas are posted at least two days prior to a meeting according to law. When we have lighter agendas we try to get it out there earlier.”

Street paving on Fairview Ave and S. Park St. will be completed soon and so will the sidewalk on S. Park St. Brandon suggested that the town pay cash for the sidewalk and finance the paving project. All were in agreement.

Citizen of the Year was next on the agenda. Qualifying nominees are: Jackie Flippin, Mary Ann Peters, Judy Roberts, Ryan & Callie Smith, Jeff Webster, Gennifer Willis, and Terri Witherow. Some of the Aldermen felt they should not be the ones to vote for the winner. Doris Arthur wanted to allow the public to vote. Janice Kerber wanted a bio to help them better understand why these citizens were nominated. After some discussion, Mayor John Luna weighed in, “No matter how we do it, it’s got to be done by Dec. 2 so they can be at the lighting of the Christmas tree.”

The board voted to have citizens vote for Citizen of the Year.

Votes will be taken until Nov. 27 at the close of business
