Childress tosses 1-hitter vs. Culleoka

CORNERSVILLE — Jayli Childress was nearly unhittable on Monday night against Culleoka.
Nearly.
The Lady ‘Dawg senior spun a one-hitter and took the win in the circle as Cornersville crushed visiting Culleoka, 10-0.
After being held scoreless in the first frame, Cornersville went to work in the bottom of the second and built a 3-0 lead off a RBI single from Alex Cardin, who then scored by stealing home for the 2-0 Cornersville lead.
Abbi Storey later drew a bases-loaded walk and Cornersville led 3-0.
The Lady ‘Dawgs continued pouring on the offense in the third with a RBI single from Georganna Peters and then Anna Wood drove in a run after flying out to center field, scoring Cardin.
Childress helped her own cause with a RBI single and by the end of the third, led 7-0.
Three more runs scored in the seventh, all three of which came off Culleoka errors.
Childress went 2-for-3 with a RBI and Cardin also was 2-for-3 on the night.
Childress took the win and gave up just one hit and struck out eight in five innings pitched.
