Due to dry conditions and for the safety of the public and firefighters, The City of Lewisburg will be under an open burning ban starting today (10/25/2023) at noon until further notice. As soon as the dry conditions improve the ban will be lifted.
(1) The use of open flames in fire pits, campfires, barrels, bonfires, burn piles, and like-open burning is included in the burn ban.
(2) Outdoor cooking is authorized in an appliance that has a lid that can be closed. Any open top cooking appliance cannot be used during the ban.
(3) Please use caution utilizing any equipment that produces heat or sparks while performing yard work or maintenance.
TN Code 39-14-304. Reckless burning.
(a) A person commits reckless burning who:
(1) Recklessly starts a fire on the land, building, structure or personal property of another;
(2) Starts a fire on the person’s own land, building, structure or personal property and recklessly allows the fire to escape and burn the property of another; or
(3) Knowingly starts an open air or unconfined fire in violation of a burning ban as provided in § 39-14-306(b).
(b) Reckless burning is a Class A misdemeanor.
