Bond Rating Increase
I am delighted to report that Standard & Poor Global Rating Service has for the first time raised our bond rating from an A to an A Plus. This is a meaningful designation. It will benefit our citizens, tax payers, and rate payers by allowing the city to borrow money at a lower rate. Design is presently underway to increase the size of our water plant which will enable us to supply future water demands. Also, hopefully in the near future plans for a new police station will be made. Both of these will require council approval.
Those who are familiar with our fiscal problems of several years ago will appreciate this remarkable recovery. A key factor in our fiscal recovery is the dedicated and loyal employees who sacrificed so much by not receiving a raise for two years. In addition, they provided the essential services while understaffed.
Lewisburg continues to grow at a historic pace. We can only do so much to control that growth, but we must be responsible stewards and above all not allow our sense of community to change.
