November Artist of the Month

The Marshall County Art Guild’s Artist for the Month of November is Kimberly Daniel. Daniel, a resident of Dickson County, is a retired teacher in art education and she is the present Director of the Fine Arts Program in Dickson. She is an incredibly talented painter, a professional painter, whose expertise consists of painting and education. Daniel has won multiple awards over the years and enjoys live competitions.
When Daniel’s children were young, she read Christmas stories to them. Of course, each story would include Santa, so she started painting a different Santa image before each Christmas. Each year, they were so excited to see the new painting of Santa that she placed above the fireplace. The story reading and new Santa paintings became a family tradition. Daniel’s children are grown but she still paints a new Santa each year.
Daniel’s 2024 Santa painting, “Kris Kringle,” is on display in the Art Guild. Admirers purchase her new Santa paintings each year. Images of these paintings, as well as other paintings, can be found online. Just type in Kimberly Daniel. More of her paintings are at the Art Guild also.

When asked what she is working on now, she remarked, “I have embarked on a new adventure. I have been using my skills, painting at live weddings. I take my supplies, set up, and paint what I see. This has really snowballed since the first wedding I painted.” She can now add to her many talents, “live wedding painter.”

Painting what is seen in open air is called plein air which refers to the practice of painting outdoors. This is the technique used when painting at the live weddings. She not only focuses on the subjects but also on the surroundings. Barns and horses are the subjects in several of her plein air paintings.
