Have you noticed the equipment and men working around the Lewisburg square for the past two weeks? The crew with Lewisburg’s City Public Works Dept. has been busy digging up shrubs and trees that were planted at least 25 years ago. Several of the shrubs and trees were dead, several were dying, and the roots of the trees have started growing under the concrete, which it time, would cause damage to the concrete surfaces. So the decision was made to replace all of them. It’s surprising that any of the street trees lived this long due to hard conditions such as living on concrete and asphalt.
Street trees, trees that are durable and the right shape for planting along streets, such as the Honey Locust and Yoshiro Cherry Trees, are replacing the trees that have been removed.
