LEWISBURG — Perhaps there’s no hotter team in Class 4A than the Marshall County Tigers as the football calendar flips to the postseason.
On Thursday night, the Tigers wrapped up their perfect run through the Region 5-4A schedule and capped their second-straight region championship, dominating Creek Wood, 47-15.
Following the finale win against Creek Wood, the Tigers have outscored their region opponents by a staggering 215-28.
Simply put, Marshall County is humming on both sides of the ball.
Following a brutal schedule to start the season, the Tigers finished the regular season on a five-game win-streak that included three-straight shutout wins.
Against the Red Hawks, it was a balanced attack on the offensive side that landed the Tigers their second-straight region championship.
Senior quarterback Tyler Thompson completed 13-of-20 attempts for 186 yards and a pair of touchdowns, despite being picked off once.
Kel Hightower was his top target, hauling in seven catches for 105 yards and both receiving touchdowns.
On the ground, Marshall County cranked out 169 yards, with Tot Gardner and Aiden Bryant being the breadwinners out of the backfield.
Gardner got 13 carries and totaled 51 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Bryant added 70 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown as well.
With the win, Marshall County will host the opening round of the Class 4A playoffs and will welcome Liberty Creek on Friday night.
Liberty Creek finished as the No. 4 seed in the Region 6-4A standings and closed its regular season with a 42-10 loss to Pearl Cohn.
Marshall County will kickoff its postseason run on Friday night at Preston Hopkins at 7 p.m.
