Quincy Mitchell has only been on the Forrest Rockets’ roster for two years.
While his freshman season was marred with injuries a season ago, he made the most of his time on the field and absolutely made an impact on the Rockets’ identity on the field.
Fast forward to his sophomore season and its been nothing short of a remarkable ride for the sophomore speedster.
Prior to the Rockets’ bye week last week, Mitchell had climbed the national rankings and was No. 3 in the nation, according to Maxpreps.com, in total rushing yards.
After the bye week, Mitchell dropped to No. 8 in the rankings, but still sits poised for a strong finish to the season.
Through eight weeks, he’s totaled 1,963 rushing yards and found paydirt 23 times.
He’s made 13 catches for 150 yards and scored two receiving touchdowns as well.
During the Rockets’ 50-20 homecoming win two weeks ago, Mitchell eclipsed the school rushing record, set by Zach McClendon.
“What a way to put the finishing touches on the night with Quincy Mitchell breaking the school single season rushing record. He has had a tremendous season and is just a special player. It’s awesome to see good kids who work hard achieve things like that,” Rocket head coach Justin Palmer said following the win over Cascade.
While Mitchell’s national standing has taken a tumble, still sitting in the top 10 is nothing short of remarkable for the Rocket speedster.
Forrest will close out the regular season with a couple of tough region games on the road at Giles County and at Watertown.
Kickoff for both games is set for 7 p.m.
