WAYNESBORO — Have a night, Hunter Uland.
Uland’s efforts on both sides of the ball spearheaded a valiant effort that snapped a four-game skid with the 35-22 win on Friday at Wayne County.
Uland totaled 208 yards on 22 carries and recorded three touchdowns, hauled in a pair of catches for 11 yards, recorded six tackles, including four solo, and put a cap on the night with a blocked punt.
While Uland’s banner night was the driving force behind the Cornersville victory, the ‘Dawgs got the scoring started when Braxton Polley connected with Cameron Fitzpatrick on a 26-yard touchdown toss with 8:02 left in the first.
Kipton’s successful kick after gave the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead by the end of the first.
Uland notched his first touchdown of the night barely four minutes into the second quarter, scoring from three yards out.
Wayne County finally got on the board with less than four minutes remaining in the half when Case Butler scored on a six-yard touchdown run.
Barely a minute later, Uland found the end zone for his second touchdown of the quarter on a three-yard slice to paydirt.
Luna’s successful kick after made it a 21-7 Bulldog lead at the half.
It was more of the same into the third period, with a steady mix of Uland on the ground and Polly through the air.
Uland eventually found a crease on a 54-yard touchdown run, bumping it to a 28-7 Cornersville advantage with 7:35 left in the third.
Wayne County struck back with another rushing touchdown from Butler, but Cornersville answered with 18 ticks left on the clock in the third.
Polly again connected with Fitzpatrick, this time on a 74-yard touchdown pass for what proved to be the final touchdown of the night for Cornersville.
Wayne County did add two more scores in the fourth quarter, one coming on a safety from a bad snap through the end zone, and a third touchdown from Butler from two yards out with 4:43 remaining in the game.
With the win, Cornersville heads into the off week with a chance to heal some bumps and bruises before returning to Frog Bottom for the final two games of the regular season against region foes Moore County and Huntland.
