FAYETTEVILLE — The Forrest Rockets left no doubt Friday night as they rolled past the Fayetteville Tigers, 38-6, in a matchup that showcased the Rockets’ rushing attack and opportunistic defense.
It didn’t take long for the Rockets to strike.
On their first possession, Quincy Mitchell broke free for a 60-yard touchdown run with 9:42 left in the opening quarter to put Forrest ahead 7-0.
After forcing a Fayetteville punt, Forrest extended its lead when, on a fourth and short, quarterback Micah Morgan powered into the end zone on a quarterback keeper from close range.
Isai Garcia’s extra point made it 14-0 midway through the first.
Fayetteville answered with a steady drive, capped by a short touchdown run at the 6:14 mark.
The Tigers’ two-point attempt failed, leaving Forrest ahead 14-6.
The Rockets responded quickly.
After a stalled drive, Garcia nailed a 34-yard field goal, and Mitchell later added another rushing score late in the second to stretch the lead to 24-6 at halftime.
The Rockets continued to control the game in the second half, leaning on their offensive line and relentless ground attack.
Mitchell tacked on one more touchdown in the third, pushing the lead to 31-6.
In the fourth frame, Forrest mixed in fresh legs as Ethan Patrick and Oakley Pipkin gained ground for the Rockets.
Morgan capped the drive with a short touchdown pass to Shawn David, sealing the 38-6 victory.
Forrest’s defense was equally impressive, forcing multiple turnovers on downs and shutting down Fayetteville’s passing game.
With the win, the Rockets improve to 4-1, gaining momentum heading into the second half of the season.
Forrest will host the Sequatchie County Indians this Friday. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
