EAGLEVILLE — A huge second quarter was more than the Cornersville Bulldogs could overcome on Friday night at Eaglevile, as the Eagles claimed the 34-6 District 5-A win.
Although the Eagles grabbed the lead with an touchdown from Thomas Solomon mid-way through the first quarter, Cornersville fell behind a massive hole with a 20-point Eagleville second quarter, including two scores in the final 1:30 of the first half.
Jonathan Jordan scored form 29 yards out early in the second and broke loose again with 1:29 left in the period on a 40-yard strike.
Eagleville aired it out for a 45-yard strike with 28 seconds left in the half to go up 27-0 by halftime.
Although Eagleville tacked on a final score with 7:04 left in the fourth quarter, Bulldog senior Hunter Uland made sure he the ‘Dawgs wouldn’t be shutout when he scored on a six-yard run as time expired.
Friday night’s game also was forced the ‘Dawgs to look for key players to step up after injuries have piled up, including a season-ending knee injury to quarterback Jackson Smith.
Cornersville continues its month-long slate of road games with a lengthy trip to non-district opponent Houston County on Friday night.
