Cornersville BOMA Meeting April 2025

The Cornersville Board of Mayor and Aldermen met on April 3, 2025, at Town Hall. Mayor John Luna called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and delivered the Pledge of Allegiance. Alderman Taylor Pickett led the Invocation. The financials and March minutes were approved by a 5-0 vote. The March minutes contained “confirmation of budget workshop on March 20.”  In the minutes, it reflects discussion over the budget Committee. Mayor Luna stated the committee must consist of the mayor and two aldermen per the town charter. Taylor Brandon stated that the entire BOMA has always discussed the budget. Taylor believes that the charter calls for the mayor and two aldermen at a minimum to be on the committee. Doris Arthur made a motion to nominate Sherry McClintock and Janice Kerber to the committee and it passed unanimously. They will both serve on the budget committee with Mayor Luna.

Several ordinances passed, including 25-342 Phase IV Zoning from Spencer Alley to Coleman Rd. on its Second Reading by vote of 4-1 with Taylor Pickett being the only no vote.

The first reading of 25-345 to amend the FY24-25 Budget passed unanimously. The ordinance appropriates funds from increased revenues, loans, and fund balance. It says that the Town of Cornersville will exceed the funds appropriated for FY24-25 Budget, (adopted by ordinance 24-318) and they are now amending it to include an increase in appropriations for the following amounts:

  • General Fund $175,929
  • Street Fund $6,431
  • Sanitation Fund $1,756

Ordinance 25-346, the first reading for the Budget for FY25-26 with an amendment to include a cost-of-living increase for all employees, passed unanimously.

Under Section 8, it states the property tax of $0.90 per $100.00 assessed value on all real and personal property.

In Exhibit A, there is a dramatic increase in fines and fees. Under FY23-24 the amount was $15,879. For FY24-25 Estimated, it shows $16,119. The Proposed FY25-26 Budget shows $104,000 under Total fines and fees / Court fines and fees.

The brush contract with Top Notch Property Management, LLC is extended for one year and will expire April 30, 2026, under its original terms from May 1, 2023. The Town agrees to make 12 monthly installment payments of $3,000 for their brush collection services by Resolution 25-347. It passed unanimously.

Under Other New Business, Brandon updated the Board on the municipal Code revisions. He does have the updated codes in hand from MTAS (Municipal Technical Advisory Service. It has increased from its original 25 pages to around 195 pages.

The meeting adjourned at 6:22 p.m. pending an announcement that a Tornado Watch had been issued. All business was completed.
