TEACHER FEATURE OF THE WEEK
Peyton Newton, Assistant Principal at Cornersville High School
My name is Peyton Newton and I am the Assistant Principal at Cornersville High School. I graduated high school in 2008 from Richland High School and knew going into college that I wanted to be a teacher and a coach. I was blessed to start teaching and coaching at Cornersville High School right after college in 2013. I spent nine years teaching and coaching basketball and golf at Cornersville where I formed many lifelong friendships, not only at Cornersville, but throughout Marshall County.
Several teachers in Marshall County and surrounding counties got together and we did a cohort through MTSU and graduated with our Masters in Administration and Supervision in May of 2022. Shortly after completing the degree, I accepted the position of Assistant Principal/Athletic Director at Elkton School in Giles County. Again, I worked with great people and grew as an educator through my time there.
When the position of Assistant Principal opened up at Cornersville High School for this current school year, I knew I wanted to apply and see if it was meant to be for me to come back home and serve in that capacity. Thankfully, I got the job and have felt right back at home since day one. We have amazing students, teachers, and families at Cornersville, and being an educator in the Marshall County School System is a huge blessing! I can not begin to thank all of the many people who had a hand, large and small, in helping me grow and hopefully continue to serve our school and community for many years. We need great teachers more today than maybe ever, so if any of our young people are even considering going into the education field, I hope we all encourage and support them because our youth are our future leaders!
