Joyce Marie Holder Blalock, 83, of Lewisburg, died Saturday, September 14, 2024, at her residence.

Joyce was born September 25, 1940, to the late Alonzo Benton and Ora Mae Young Holder and was a member of the Westvue Church of Christ. She was married to Thomas Blalock for 67 years from November 26, 1955, until his passing in 2022.

Mrs. Joyce wore many hats during her years on this earth. She worked beside Thomas on the farm raising milk cows, tobacco, vegetables, and their six children. While at home, she could be found canning vegetables, working in her flowers, cooking enough to feed a small army, and humming hymns while she worked. Joyce was a faithful Christian woman and her influence could be felt all around the community. She would fill her station wagon full of neighborhood children to bring them to church on Sundays and Bible School during the summer at Hardins Chapel and Westvue. Joyce taught Sunday school for many years to countless children and served as a fine example to younger Christian women for the 20 years that Thomas served as an elder at Westvue Church of Christ.

She also served the public in several capacities during her life. She did sewing, quilting, embroidery, alterations, and window treatments for the public for 58 years. During that time, Joyce made cheerleading uniforms for youth football, bridesmaid and wedding dresses, and clothes for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She altered dresses for weddings, Sub Deb, proms, and many other events over the years. Thomas and Joyce owned and operated the Archer Feed Mill in the Springplace community for eight years. She also worked at WeeCare, the Marshall County Trustee’s office, Crigger’s Cleaners, and Village Manor. She also kept her grandchildren from time to time and a couple of her great-grandchildren for a few years. In their later years, Thomas and Joyce worked together raising and truck-patching vegetables, apples, watermelons, and pumpkins. Joyce also made the best fried pies that Thomas would sell all around town in his little green truck. Joyce enjoyed the flowers that she grew along the wall, the many birds that she fed on her front porch, and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Scott and Betty Young, her husband of 67 years, Thomas Blalock, and two sons, Lance Blalock and Mark Blalock.

Mrs. Joyce is survived by her children Mike (Estell) Blalock, Anita (Frankie) Harwell, Monty (Barry) Thompson, Leslie (Trina) Blalock, and a daughter-in-law, Amy Blalock; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Kris (Kara) Blalock (Drew, Kannon, & Turner), Jason (Devann) Curry (Tristan, Jakavan, Keyson, & Lucas), Jessica (Chesley) Newton (Lillie & Ginny), Tiffany Wentzel (Arianna, Arabella, & Atticus), Daniel (Lindsey) Blalock (Emerson & Parker), Tyler (Kendra) Blalock (Weller & Bishop), Benton (Amber) Thompson (Emma & Cali), Amber Blalock, and Cole Blalock; one sister, Sandra Sanders, and dear friends, Peggy McClendon, Jim & Carolyn Bingham, Barbara & Marion Whitsett, Forrest & Peggy Barrom, Debbie Jett, Polly Calahan, Donna Wright and many, many more. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation with the family was held at Westvue Church of Christ, 1710 West Commerce St., Lewisburg, TN, on Monday, September 16, 2024, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and continued on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour.

Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at noon from the Westvue Church of Christ and burial followed in Bryant Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Westvue Church of Christ.
